About Senator Babajide Omoworare

Babajide Christopher Omoworare CON is a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a practicing lawyer, a public policy analyst, lobbyist and good governance advocate. The last of seven children, he was born at about 9.00pm on Thursday October 31, 1968 at the General Hospital, Ilesa into the devout Catholic family of Oloye Joseph Larewaju Omoworare and Omo-oba Teniade Areoye Omoworare (Nee Aderemi), who both hail from Ile-Ife, Osun State, when his father was the Principal of Ebenezer Grammar School, Ijeda Osun State, Nigeria.

He started schooling at Sijuwade Nursery and Primary School, advanced to St. John’s Grammar School and thereafter in 1989 obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) from Obafemi Awolowo University, all in Ile-Ife, Osun State. He became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1990 having graduated from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and became a Notary Public in 1998. He has a Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M) from the University of Lagos, a Master’s in Business Administration from Business School Netherlands and a Master’s of Philosophy (MPhil) from the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of Lagos.

His family line is laced with a deep history of nationalism, politics and public service. Pa Daniel Omoworare, his Paternal Great Grandfather was a founding member of Egbe Agba Afenifere. Ooni Adesoji Aderemi, his Maternal Grandfather was the first black African Governor. While his sister, Hon. Olanike Omoworare was the first female Deputy Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly and indeed Nigeria.

Senator Babajide Omoworare contested and won elections twice as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) representing Ifako Ijaye State Constituency 1. Firstly, in 1999 when he contested as a member of Alliance for Democracy (AD) and later in 2003 under the umbrella of Action Congress (AC). Omoworare contested Osun East Senatorial seat in 2007, which the Court of Appeal, Ibadan nullified for widespread electoral malpractices and extensive violence and ordered a rerun of the election in all the districts units. However, Omoworare’s party Action Congress (AC) boycotted the election. He was fielded again in 2011 elections by Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and he won the election with a landslide. With his victory at the 2015 polls on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Omoworare served a second term in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was appointed in 2019 by President Muhammadu Buhari as his Senior Special Assistant on Legislative Matters (Senate). In this position he was the head of the Presidents Legislative Office and the President’s major liaison to the National Assembly.

Amidst numerous awards, in recognition of his qualitative representation at the Senate and his impactful political participation in the country, both Presidents Jonathan in 2019 and Buhari in 2023 conferred him with the National Honour in the rank of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Before he became a politician, he practiced law with the Law Firm of Babalakin and Co between 1990 and 1998 and left as a Senior Associate to found Omoworare & Co in 1999. Senator Babajide Omoworare is currently engaged as the Principal Partner of ABLE Legal Consultants; a Law Practice, Legal Consultants and Good Governance Consulting firm he founded in 2007. While he was a sitting Senator he established Afara the Bridge for Community Development Initiative (ABCDi), to act as the community catalyst and capacity development agents for underserved women and young persons in the areas of leadership development, digital inclusivity, technical and vocational skills development and Community Intervention Programs. As an offshoot of ABCDi he Co-Founded AfaraHub a collaborative centre focused on capacity development and cultivation of innovative ideas to enhance employability, engender entrepreneurship and support business growth.

Babajide Omoworare is married to Olabisi and they are blessed with Omowonuola and Omokanyinsola; he is a Member, Patron and Proprietor of numerous Church societies, sport clubs and charity organizations. He is also a Trustee, Non-Executive Director and Director of Profit and Non-Profit Interests.
